We're Restoring Power & Monitoring Weather

Update: 3/15/2026 3:13 PM ET

What You Need to Know

  • Crews have restored power to more than 220,000 customers since Friday’s peak of over 250,000 outages across our service territory.
  • We have about 4,000 crews, contractors and mutual assistance teams in the field — roughly four times our normal headcount — with more arriving from out of state.
  • We’re also monitoring potential severe weather beginning in northwestern Ohio this afternoon and moving across the state overnight.
  • Our job is not done until everyone’s power is restored. Crews will continue working around the clock to get the lights back on and are ready if new storms cause additional outages.

SITUATION OVERVIEW

About 30,000 customers remain without power from Friday’s windstorm, mostly in northeastern, central and eastern Ohio. Crews are picking their way through downed trees, branches and debris to get to damaged equipment. About 90% of the damage has been caused by trees toppled by Friday's severe, sustained winds.

Northwestern Ohio is beginning to see outages from wind gusts of 45-55 mph that will continue into the evening, followed by a strong broken line of severe thunderstorms. These storms will bring scattered wind gusts of 60-75 mph and possibly a few tornadoes. Storms will weaken as they move across the state before daybreak.

On Monday, cold winds of 30-40 mph are possible in northwestern Ohio. Brief snow showers could bring lower than average temperatures to Ohio into Tuesday.

OUTAGE VERIFICATION LETTER

Customers can request proof of an outage for their employer or for organizations that provide assistance at AEPOhio.com/outages/verification-letter. This tool allows customers to see outages for their account in the last 90 days and send a verification letter to their email.

WIND & OUTAGE SAFETY REMINDERS

  • Secure loose outdoor objects like furniture, toys and trampolines to prevent them from becoming airborne and posing a threat to your neighbors, home and our equipment.
  • Assume all downed lines are dangerous. If you see any downed lines, stay as far away from them as possible — and anything they may be touching — and call 911 or AEP Ohio at 800-672-2231 immediately.
  • Investigate your surroundings before trying to clean up any debris. Trees, limbs and debris can hide downed lines. Do not try to remove tree limbs or debris within 10 feet of a power line.
  • Never use lanterns, heaters or fuel-fired stoves without proper ventilation.
  • Unplug major appliances to protect them when power is restored.
  • Refuel lamps and generators outside and away from flames and sparks. Wipe up spilled fuel immediately.
