Summary
Severe storms that moved through eastern Kentucky Sunday brought heavy rain and strong winds, causing widespread outages across Kentucky Power’s service area. Additional storms Monday night caused new outages, primarily in the Letcher County area.
Restoration
Crews have successfully restored power to more than 90% of customers affected by Sunday’s storms, with approximately 1,000 customers currently without power.
Crews are continuing work this evening to complete remaining repairs. Restoration in the Hazard area (Letcher, Perry, Knott counties) where additional outages occurred last night, is expected to be completed by 11:30 p.m.
Storm Response Efforts
Nearly 800 Kentucky Power employees, business partners and mutual assistance personnel have supported the storm response efforts today. Repairs needed following the storms that impacted our service area Sunday included 29 cross arms, 31 poles, 32 cutouts, 16 transformers and 247 spans of wire, which is nearly 14 miles.

Saturated ground remains a concern and can make trees more susceptible to falling, creating additional outages and safety hazards. Customers should stay alert around damaged or leaning trees and limbs that could fall without warning.
