Summary
Kentucky Power crews continue to make significant progress following Sunday’s severe storms that caused more than 10,700 customer outages at the peak of the event.
Currently, 2,862 customers remain without power. Approximately 1,000 of those are new outages that occurred last night, which are mostly located in the Letcher and Leslie county areas.
Nearly 800 Kentucky Power employees, business partners and mutual assistance personnel remain focused on completing restoration.
Restoration
Damage assessments are nearly complete for the overnight outages, with crews repairing broken poles, damaged wire and other electrical equipment across the service area as quickly and safely as possible.
Most customers are expected to have power restored by 4 p.m. today, with restoration in the Hazard area expected by 11:30 p.m. tonight. Many customers will be restored sooner. These estimates could change if crews encounter additional damage, access issues or new outages.
Customers can sign up to receive text and email alerts about Estimated Restoration Times (ETRs) at KentuckyPower.com/Alerts.
Weather
Drier weather today should provide more favorable conditions for restoration. However, saturated ground remains a concern. Trees weakened by wet soil can fall without warning, potentially damaging power lines and causing new outages even without severe weather.
Stay Safe
- Stay alert around leaning or damaged trees and broken limbs, which can fall without warning. Give tree and utility crews plenty of room to work and never attempt to remove trees or limbs near electrical equipment.
- Report outages and check restoration information at KentuckyPower.com/Outages or through the Kentucky Power mobile app.
