Summary
Kentucky Power crews have restored power to more than half of the 10,700 customers affected by severe storms that moved through the service area Sunday evening. Currently, approximately 3,100 customers remain without power.
Yesterday’s storms arrived just days after an extended restoration effort from last week’s severe weather, bringing another round of heavy rain and strong winds to already saturated areas of eastern Kentucky.
Restoration Progress
Approximately 800 Kentucky Power employees, business partners and mutual assistance personnel are supporting the response across the service area.
Crews made significant progress today, restoring thousands of customers while completing damage assessments and moving resources to areas where the most work remains. In some locations, restoration requires multiple steps before electrical repairs can even begin.
That has been particularly true in the Hazard area, where fallen trees blocked highways and other access points. Tree crews first had to remove trees and debris and make locations safely accessible before line crews could reach damaged electrical equipment and begin repairs.
Estimated Restoration Times (ETRs) are now available for all areas and include the following as shown in the chart below. These times represent when Kentucky Power expects restoration to be completed in those areas. Many customers will have power restored before these times as individual repairs are completed. Estimated restoration times could change if crews encounter additional damage, access issues or severe weather.

Weather
Widely scattered thunderstorms remain possible through around midnight tonight, with gusty winds and heavy rain the primary concerns. Additional storms could cause new outages or affect ongoing restoration work. Drier weather is expected tomorrow, which should provide favorable conditions for completing restoration efforts.
Stay Safe
- Repeated heavy rain and saturated ground can weaken trees and root systems. Stay alert around damaged or leaning trees and broken limbs, which can fall without warning even after severe weather has passed.
- As tree and utility crews work along roads and highways, slow down, follow road closures and give crews plenty of room to work. Never attempt to remove trees or limbs that are touching or near electrical equipment.
- Customers can find additional storm and electrical safety information at KentuckyPower.com/Safety.
