7-28 2p Update

Update: 7/28/2026 2:30 PM ET

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Crews are making steady progress on repairs and are updating estimated restoration times to be more specific to each outage.
  • Most of the Muncie area has been restored.
  • Most customers in the Marion area are still expected to be restored by 6:00 p.m.
  • Difficult access for some broken poles may cause a few outages in the hardest hit areas of Muncie and Jonesboro to extend later into this evening.
  • We appreciate our customers’ continued patience and understanding as our crews continue their work.

SITUATION

Crews are continuing to clear fallen trees and debris and to replace broken poles in order to restore power for customers who are still impacted by the storms.

As of 2:00 p.m., less than 800 customers are without power due to the storms.

Approximately 120 customers in the Muncie area affected by heavier damage are expected to be back on by 5:00 p.m. Thirty customers in the Ethel Avenue and West 26th Street areas will extend later this evening, and we will contact those customers directly. Customers in the Jonesboro area are expected to be restored by 10:00 p.m.

Damage assessors have so far found more than 30 broken poles, and replacing these is a process that needs to be done with care to ensure everyone’s safety and reliability. Some of the poles are impossible to access with equipment and crews are hand-digging to replace them.

Even as more than 90% of impacted customers have been restored, our teams are going to continue working until every outage is resolved because every customer matters.

CAN YOU RECEIVE POWER?

Due to the high winds from this storm, in some cases damage may affect the equipment connected directly to your home or business. If that’s the case, a licensed electrician may need to make repairs before we can safely restore service. Checking for any visible damage and contacting an electrician, if needed, can help those repairs get completed sooner so we can restore your power.

If our crews see damage that prevents restoration, we will contact you directly and/or leave a door hanger with next steps. You can learn more about the process here.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

  • Stay Away from Downed Lines: All downed lines should be considered energized and deadly. The power line and anything it could touch, including fences, storm debris, and standing water, can carry electric current that could cause serious or fatal injuries. If you see a fallen wire, keep yourself and others (including pets) away and call local police or I&M immediately at 1-800-311-4634.
  • Take It Slow on the Road: Drivers should reduce speed and be on the lookout for utility personnel, emergency responders, and tree removal crews working in the area.
  • Check for Local Cooling Centers: Some communities set up cooling centers for people to escape the heat. Check with your local city or county.
